Joseph Ndungu Named October Men's Mariner of the Month

College of Marin Men’s Soccer team forward Joseph Ndungu was named the Men’s Mariner of the Month for October. The freshman forward from Tamalpais High enjoyed his best month of the season as scored three goals and assisted on another in seven appearances in the month.

In the first match of October at Contra Costa, Ndungu scored a consolation goal late in the second half. The Mariners trailed at the time 4-0, as he took a pass from Alejandro Gonzalez Flores in the 64th minute and scored his first goal of the season.

Ndungu recorded his first assist of the season on October 17th in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Mendocino College. With the teams tied at 2-2 in the 69th minute, Ndungu’s through ball found the feet of Johnathan Blanco who netted the game winner for the Mariners.

Joseph scored his second career goal just three days later in a home loss to Contra Costa. With the Mariners trailing 5-0, Ndungu got a pass from his old friend Flores and scored from the right channel to prevent a shutout by Contra Costa.

Ndungu’s third goal of the month came against Napa Valley College on October 27th as he was selected as the penalty taker for a dangerous challenge on the edge of the box. His penalty shot was strong as he converted to tie the game at 1-1 at the time. Though the Mariners would go on to drop the match 2-1, he kept it close with his goal.

The freshman has many more goals ahead of him in his College of Marin future.
