Kindel And Schalch Are April Mariners Of The Month

April is the final full month of competition for College of Marin Athletics. The Track & Field, Swim & Dive and Baseball teams had several standouts amongst them. Rising to the top were Ryan Schalch of the Baseball Team and Perry Kindel of the Swim & Dive Team.

In 12 April games Ryan Schalch was in a league of his own. He had 19 hits in 46 at bats good for a .413 batting average. Schalch drove in 20 runs, and had 6 extra base hits, including two doubles a triple and three home runs. He walked eight times while striking out just four times . His on base percentage was .542, while he slugged .696 in the month of April.  He had several outstanding games during the month. He was 3 for 4 with a triple and 2 RBI against Laney College on April 13th. He went 3 for 4 with three RBI against Contra Costa College on April 19th and hit a walk off home run against Mendocino College in a 7-4 home victory on April 28th.

Schalch also spent some time on the mound in April, appearing in four games. He saved three games while allowing four earned runs while striking out 13 while walking just two in 11 innings. For his efforts during the 2016 season, Schlach was named a unanimous first team infielder for the Bay Valley Conference. Schalch will transfer in the fall and continue his baseball career at University of the Pacific

Perry Kindel had an excellent month of April for the Swim & Dive Team. The freshman diver competed twice during the month, opening with a second place finish in the 1 meter diving competition with 145.43 points at the Chabot Invite in Hayward.

She closed the month at the NorCal Diving Championships where she was the top diver in the Bay Valley Conference in both the 1 and 3 meter diving competitions. She scored 141.3 points in the one meter competition, first place in the Bay Valley Conference and 10th in Northern California. In the 3 meter competition she recorded a score of 105.5 points, first again in the BVC and 11th in Northern California. Kindel will return to College of Marin in the fall to continue her diving career.
