Soccer’s Steffanie Flores is October Co-Mariner of the Month

Sophomore Steffanie Flores was named Co-Mariner of the Month for October. The midfielder for the Women’s Soccer Team was a core member of the 2019 squad and Co-Captain. Flores epitomized the definition of a team player, always giving maximum effort and playing every possible minute.

The Mariners opened October with an 8-0 loss to Merritt College on the road. Despite the loss, Flores was tenacious, playing box to box for 90 minutes. While she failed to score, she was a part of every positive team action in the match.

Flores was a major part of the Mariners’ success in their near result against the Yuba College 49ers on October 4th. The 10-man squad ultimately fell 3-2 but Flores was not to blame. She scored the opening goal off a free kick in the 27th minute to put Marin ahead. She was forced off in 80th minute due to injury, but received expeditious training, and rejoined the fray to battle to the final whistle.

The sophomore played the final match of the year against Los Medanos. The undermanned Mariners did their best, due in part to Flores’ heart. She played every second of the match and still had the energy to keep competing.

Flores finished her 2019 season with three goals in nine matches as well as the respect of each and every one of her teammates.
