Sophomore forward Monica Vasquez was instrumental in her team’s 2-0 win over Merritt College. Her right footed cross found Sierra Grossman for the first goal of the game. In the second half, Vasquez scored her first goal of the season, pouncing on a pass from Kalia Rothlind and finding the back of the net.  Vasquez also assisted on the team’s first goal of the season against Napa College, serving up Grace Gurung for the goal.  Monica leads the team with one goal and two assists on the season.

Sophomore Midfielder Julien Melendez returned to the team to be a leader in the midfield and in September he demonstrated the full scope of his abilities. He scored his team’s lone goal in the first match of the season against Canada College. Melendez followed that up with a goal against Butte College. He scored from a direct free kick from the left wing that perfectly chipped the goalkeeper. His best performance was in the team’s 6-4 loss to Merritt College. Melendez scored the opener for the Mariners tying the score at one, he followed that up with a pair of assists on Marvin Buch’s two goals of the game.  Julien leads the team with three goals and two assists.
