Mariners Beach Volleyball Falls To Sierra and Delta

College of Marin Beach Volleyball endured a difficult day of matches at Sierra College on Friday. They faced Sierra College and took on Delta College with mere minutes between the matches. It was a strenuous affair and while the Mariners battled, they were unable to find victory in either of the matches.

The match versus Sierra saw Diana Patrick and Emma Harris as the top pairing. They took on the 1's from Sierra. The first set went to the host squad 21-7, but the second was more competitive as Patrick and Harris fell 21-13. The second pairing of Sarah Harris and Alejandra Leon fell in straight sets to Sierra 21-9 and 21-10 while Hellen Sigaran and Ashley Chanthonthip took on the threes of Sierra in a pair of 21-5 sets. The final pairing for Marin of Erika Eide and Francis Marin were defeated 21-7 and 21-4.

Marin did not field a fifth pairing due to player absences, as a result nearly every pairing was different for the Mariners which caused some difficulties in the first match of the day.

The pairings' quality improved against Delta College. Harris and Patrick were very competitive against the top team of Delta, nearly taking the first set, but falling 21-16, the second set saw the team run out of gas a bit as they dropped it 21-11. Harris and Leon did well in their second match as they dropped it to the two's of Delta 21-12 and 21-13. Sigaran and Chanthongthip fell 21-8 and 21-9 while Eide and Marin bounced back with a 21-8 and 21-15 effort.

While the Mariners did not win a set on the day, they exposed themselves to very quality competition. They competed well, and it was merely fatigue that did them in at the end of the day.

Next up for the Mariners is a visit to Feather River College on Friday, April 13th as they will take on College of the Redwoods and Feather River.
