Marin Beach Volleyball had their longest trip of the season on Friday. They took the arduous journey to Feather River College, and while it was a very long day, it was certainly worth the trip. The Mariners earned their second victory of the season and first in conference play over College of the Redwoods 4-1.
The Mariners top team of Emma Harris and Salomi Galodamu battled mightily against the top squad from College of the Redwoods. After narrowly taking the first set 21-19, Marin could not complete the sweep as Redwoods took the second 21-15. The third and deciding set was extremely close but Redwoods took the set and the 1's match 15-13.
The second team of Diana Patrick and Sarah Harris looked to respond quickly. They did. They freshman duo combined to thrash the two's team of College of the Redwoods 21-5 and 21-4. They made quick work of their opponents and tied the match at 1-1 with their victory.
Hellen Sigaran and Ashley Chanthongthip put on an excellent performance in the three's match to seal victory for the Mariners. They allowed just three points by the opposition in the first set, collecting a dominating 21-3 victory. They let up a bit in the second as Redwoods earned 11 points, but managed to win that one going away at 21-11.
Redwoods could not field a fourth of fifth pairing as the Mariners took the win 4-1.
The second match of the day against Feather River College was very active affair. Harris and Galodamu took on the top team from Feather River and fell 21-9 and 21-11. Patrick and Harris did their best to take the first set from Feather River, but fell just a hair short as they lost 21-19. The second set also went to Feather River by a score of 21-11.
Sigaran and Chanthongthip fell in their match against Feather River 21-7 and 21-10. Francis Marin and Erika Eide made their day's debut in the fours match against Feather River and fell 21-6 and 21-6.
All and all it was a successful day for the Mariners who have a 2-8 record on the year including 1-6 in conference play. Coach Lisa Gera was pleased with the team's performance "It was a great win for us. The girls continue to show growth each match and battle with some of the best teams in the state!"
The final matches of the season take place at Sierra College on Thursday, April 26th as the Mariners will take on the hosts as well as College of the Redwoods.
