The College of Marin Beach Volleyball Team has the privilege of hosting their first matches on Friday, March First. The Beach program debuted in Spring of 2018 but played the entirety of their season on the road. The 2019 season is different as Marin is slated to host matches on four different dates. The Kentfield Beach Volleyball Complex is home to the Mariners' first matches of the season against University of San Francisco and San Mateo beginning at 11:00am.
After a 3-9 season in 2018 the Mariners have their sights set higher in 2019. The 11-member roster features three returners from the 2018 Beach Volleyball Team. Sophomores Sarah Harris, Alejandra Leon and Ashley Chanthongthip each bring three seasons College of Marin Volleyball to the sand. All three competed last season in beach as well as the previous two seasons indoors.
Mariners Beach Volleyball also boasts five players moving from indoor to the sand. Nattasia Ferrin, Magnolia Johnson, Khadeejia Marcum, Amber Proctor and Kirsta Rodriguez-McKee all competed for the Mariners indoor volleyball team in Fall of 2018.
Three newcomers round out the Mariners Beach roster. Luisa Ayala, Christiane Gubser and Mackenzie Graham are slated to make their debut on Tuesday.
Marin has a challenging schedule on tap. After opening against Foothill and San Mateo, the Mariners host University of San Francisco, San Mateo for a second time and Fresno City College. They wrap up non-conference competition with a road trip to Santa Barbara City College on March 19th.
The Mariners will face familiar competition in the Big 8 this year with multiple matches against San Joaquin Delta, Sierra College, Feather River and College of the Redwoods. They'll complete their regular season on Thursday, April 24th with the Big 8 Pairs Championship.
