COM Baseball Falls in 10 Innings To Diablo Valley College 4-3

Solid pitching and timely hitting has been the MO for the College of Marin Baseball team over the past three seasons. The clutch performances have been fleeting early in the 2016 season. Diablo Valley College hit a bases loaded sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the tenth inning to pull out the victory. The reigning BVC Champions College of Marin currently hold a 2-4 record after the close loss on Tuesday.

The Mariners jumped out to an early three run lead with RBI ground outs from Ryan Schalch and Jakob Davidson and a run scoring single from Sam Schmidt in the top of the first. Diablo Valley pulled one run back in the bottom of the first with an RBI groundout. DVC pulled within one run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.

Dominic Garihan made his second start of the season and pitched six solid innings yielding five hits and two runs in six innings with three walks and four strikeouts. Brett Bowyer relieved Garihan in the bottom of the seventh inning. He allowed an RBI single after the leadoff hitter reached on an error.

With the game tied at 3-3 both pitching staffs matched zeros through the ninth inning taking the game to extra innings. Marcus Chiu singled with two outs in the top of the tenth but the Mariners could not push across the go ahead run.

Bowyer got the first out of the bottom of the tenth before allowing a walk and a single. Schalch relieved Bowyer and walked the first hitter he faced to load the bases. Daniel Defazio hit a sack fly to left to plate the winning run for Diablo Valley College.  

The Mariners travel to De Anza College on Wednesday before hosting Diablo Valley on Saturday in Kentfield at 12:00PM
