After a pair of well-pitched performances, the offenses of Napa and Marin decided to put on a show in the rubber game of the series. The two teams combined for 22 runs and 30 hits in Marin's 14-8 win.
A scoreless first inning gave way to the run filled remainder of the game as the Mariners scored thrice in the top of the second. A pair of Napa errors put runners on second and third with one away. Christian Merriwether strode to the plate a smashed a triple plating Harwell and Armusewicz. Dominic Burke followed with a sacrifice fly to grant his team a 3-0 lead.
Napa pulled a single run back in the bottom of the second on a trio of singles, but were denied any further scoring. Following a scoreless third inning, Marin was back at it to lead off the fourth frame of the game.
A walk and one out single put runners on the corners for Jake Munoz who roped Marin's second triple of the game to score a pair. Marcus Chiu followed with an RBI single to balloon the Mariners' lead to 6-1. They added on again in the fifth inning as a pair of single put runners on the corners with one out. Christian Merriwether delivered again, this time with a home run to give Marin a 9-1 lead. They added their 10th run with a single, error and RBI single with two outs in the fifth. Merriwether drove in a run in the top of the sixth with a single for his sixth RBI and an 11-1 lead.
Dominic Garihan started on the mound for Marin and breezed through the first five innings allowing just a single run. The sixth inning was not quite as simple as Napa did serious damage with two outs. A walk and single put runners on first and third. An RBI single drove in one followed by a hit by pitch that loaded the bases. A walk drove in another followed by a bases clearing double that cut Marin's lead to 11-6.
Jason Wutsch relieved Garihan and threw a scoreless seventh while Marin failed to score in the seventh and eighth innings. With Chris Allen on the hill for Marin in the eighth Napa struck again with two outs as a walk, double and single cut the lead to 11-8. The tying run remained on deck as Allen settled down to retire Napa's Jacob Ray to end the inning.
The Mariners did not rest in the ninth as they loaded the bases with one away before Jakob Davidson lofted a sacrifice fly and Alex Davis doubled in a pair to buoy the lead to six runs at 14-8.
Bowyer retired Napa in the bottom of the ninth to give the Mariners a series victory. Merriwether was the offensive hero with a triple, home run and six RBIs on the afternoon. Dominic Burke had three hits and scored twice while Jake Munoz had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs.
With the win, the Mariners record sits at 16-11 overall with a 7-2 record in Bay Valley Conference play.
