Mariners Crush Mendocino 11-2 In Rubber Game of Series

Marin scored in double digits on Monday and got an excellent performance on the hill from Dominic Garihan to grab a victory 11-2 at Mendocino College. The Mariners scored 11 runs on just nine hits and drew four walks in route to their nine run victory. A seven run eighth inning changed a relatively close 4-0 game in to a laugher late. Bryan Jakiemiec had three hits and three RBI in the winning effort for Marin.

College of Marin manufactured a run in the top of the first as Marcus Chiu was hit by a pitch with one out. A groundout moved the sophomore to second and he scored on a single by Jakob Davidson.

The game remained 1-0 in favor of the Mariners until the top of the fourth inning when an error , walk and a double steal put runners on second and third with nobody out. Jakiemiec single to score a pair and scored with two outs on a ground out by Dominic Burke to give Marin a 4-0 advantage.

Garihan cruised through seven innings for College of Marin, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out four.

Marin blew the game open in the top of the eighth inning as Jakob Davidson led off with a walk and stole second. Jake Munoz doubled him in and MacLean Meyn followed with a single to put runners at the corners. With one out a Jakiemiec single coupled with a fielding error allowed two more to score and push the lead to 7-0. With two outs Burke doubled in a run and scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to 9-0. The coup de grace was delivered by Adam Hussain who launched a two run homer to cap the seven run inning.

The 11-0 lead was maintained by Mariners' pitcher Jason Wutsch who struck out the side in the bottom of the eighth. Jack Hill pitched the ninth and allowed a two out two run home run, but the effect was merely academic on the score line as he settled down to finish off Marin's 11-2 victory.  

With the two and one week the Mariners sit tied atop the Bay Valley Conference with a 9-3 record.
