Davis' Bombs Help Allen Win Ninth As Mariners Win 10th Straight Against Napa 11-2

It has been a year of streaks for the Mariners thus far in 2018. Marin defeated Napa Valley College 11-2 on Tuesday and in the process extended their team winning streak to 10 in a row and seven in Bay Valley Conference play. Mariners' starter Chris Allen continued his personal winning streak as he is undefeated with nine victories in nine starts. Allen threw six innings and allowed two unearned runs while striking out six. Sophomore shortstop Alex Davis had a monster game at the plate with two home runs and five runs driven in.

After a scoreless top half of the first Marin got to work in a hurry in the bottom half. With one out Jake Munoz doubled and Alex Davis followed with a moon shot to give Marin an early 2-0 advantage.

Napa pulled one back with a daring two out steal of home in the top of the second, but Marin put the hammer down in the bottom half.

James Harwell reached second with one away. Dominic Burke followed with a single that plated Harwell. After Randy Fernandez reached on an error, Christian Merriwether grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Burke for a 4-1 Mariners' lead. Merriwether stole second and scored on a single by Munoz. Davis followed with his second homer in as many innings to drive in Munoz and vault the Marin advantage to 7-1.

It was smooth sailing for Marin at that point as they scored another run in the bottom of the fourth, courtesy of an RBI single by Davis, his fifth run batted in of the day. Napa scored an unearned run in the top of the fifth, but it was their last hoorah of the afternoon.

Marin took their 8-2 lead to the bottom of the seventh and added on three more for good measure. Adam Hussain started the inning with a solo home run followed by a walk and double that put runners at second and third with no outs. Burke singled in Harwell and Randy Fernandez' sacrifice fly plated Shane Dalton for an 11-2 lead.

Allen pitched through the sixth inning for the Mariners and was relieved by Jack Hill who hurled a scoreless seventh. Jared Robison followed with a shutout eighth inning and Michael Robbins finished off the game with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Davis was four for four with two home runs and five RBI on the afternoon. Jake Munoz had two hits and two runs while Dominic Burke, had two hits a run and an RBI in the Mariners blowout victory.

The win pushes Marin to 7-0 in Bay Valley Conference play and 18-7 overall on the season. Next up is a road game at Napa on Thursday, March 29th.
