Mariners Basketball Drops Tight Home Contest to Los Medanos College 84-80

Marin's unbeaten run in Bay Valley Conference play ended on Thursday night as Los Medanos came from behind to grab a four-point victory by a score of 84-80 in Kentfield. Marin had an uneven night on both offense and defense, allowing a number of second chance opportunities that the visitors from Pittsburg took advantage of.

Marin grabbed a 38-37 half time lead with a balanced scoring attack. JT Robinson hit a trifecta of first half threes while teammates Leroy Jackson and Dondre Gray also chipped in with two threes apiece. Los Medanos kept it close courtesy of an outstanding first half by Elijah Green who scored 18, nearly half of his team's 37 points in the first 20 minutes.

The second half saw the game open up, but just a bit as the teams traded buckets for much of the second half. Los Medanos took a three-point lead with under a minute remaining, and while Marin had their opportunities, they were unable to come out on top. Robinson had four more threes for Marin in the second half while Trevelin Queen had 12 points in the second half, but it was not enough. Green had nine more for Los Medanos in the second half with teammates Albert Waters scoring 11, Royce Henry with 15 and getting 13 from Mark Thomas.

Green led all scorers with 27, Henry had 21 for Los Medanos while JT Robinson led Marin with 21 points from his seven made three pointers.

Head Coach Scott Thom was less than happy about his team's effort. "We need to keep working on defending better…It's all a process, we just need to keep working on the little things and come back ready tomorrow"

Marin has just one day before heading to Solano College to face the Falcons on Saturday, January 7th.
