Men’s Basketball Drops OT Game To Los Medanos 96-90

The Mariners fought long and fought hard, but it just was not enough against Los Medanos on Wednesday. Marin tied the game late to force overtime, but the extra time went to the visitors who left Kentfield with a 96-90 win.

Garrick Sherrod hit a midrange jumper with 29 seconds left in the second half to force overtime. Overtime started off right for Marin who took an 88-86 lead on a Derek Morgan putback layup. But Los Medanos went on a 10-2 run to ice the game.

The first half was controlled by Marin who led 26-22 midway through and finished the first half with a 39-34 lead over the Mustangs. Derek Morgan dominated for the Mariners over the first twenty minutes of play, making eight field goals, good for 16 points. Eric Mireri added a three pointer and seven points in the first half.

The Mariners looked good to begin the second half, Mireri hit a pair of threes to push the advantage to 58-52 halfway through the second. Joey Potts went off in the second half with a myriad of dunks, layups and floaters. His dunk with eight minutes on the clock extended Marin's advantage to 70-63. In the second half he tallied 18 points and eight made field goals.

Los Medanos bounced back to tie the game at 75-75 before Mireri hit a layup to go up by two. LMC scored six straight before Jack Soldavini hit a layup to pull within two at 81-79. Sherrod tied the game at 81-81 with his jumper to send the game to overtime.

Morgan led the Mariners with 22 points, Potts was right behind him with 21 of his own and Mireri had 19 points including four three pointers. DeMauriaye Smith led Los Medanos with 29 points, while Andrew Hall had 26 on the evening.
