College of Marin Men’s Basketball Falls in Final Game to Napa

For Derek Morgan and Jack Soldavini, it was the final game of their Marin careers on Friday evening as both completed their second full season of the competition for the Mariners. While they both played well in their last games, the results were surely not satisfying as Marin fell to the Napa Valley Storm 92-67.

Napa hit the gas at tip off, and the Mariners could not get up to speed immediately. Napa raced to a 20-5 lead midway through the first half. Marin tried to answer, but Napa kept pushing and extended their advantage to 41-17 at the end of the first half. Morgan did his best to keep Marin within reach, scoring eight of the teams 17 in the first half.

The second half saw Marin playing at the same level as Napa. Each team traded runs for almost the entire half, but the Mariners could not make any significant dent in the Napa lead. Six minutes in Napa led 52-28, it was 61-38 Napa with 11:00 left on the clock and 70-41 with eight minutes remaining. The scoring picked up down the stretch but Napa still won going away by a score of 92-67.

Morgan had 20 of his 28 points in the second half and added 15 rebounds. He finished with season averages of 18.1 points and 12.1 rebounds per game.  Garrick Sherrod had 12 points and four steals, while Kevin Kahriman had nine points, 10 rebounds and a block for the Mariners.

Napa had four players in double figures, led by Sasha French who had 15 points and six rebounds on the evening.

The Mariners finished the 2017-2018 season with a 3-21 record including 2-14 in Bay Valley Conference play.
