Mariners’ Basketball Downs Ohlone 83-69 At Modesto Tournament

College of Marin Men's Basketball finished off their 2019 Non-Conference schedule on a high note with an 83-69 victory over the Ohlone College Renegades. It was the final day of the Modesto College Tournament as the Mariners outplayed their East Bay rivals. Alfonso Murrie had a career game with 30 points for the Marin in the victory.

The Mariners jumped out ahead and managed their lead throughout the first half. Marin's defense was on point, or off point for Ohlone as the Renegades scored just 26 points over the opening 20 minutes. Marin was better with 36 points and carried a 10-point advantage into the second half.

Both teams improved on offense as the game went on, but luckily the Mariners' were just a bit better. College of Marin tallied 47 second half points, outscoring Ohlone by four. The final result was an 83-69 win for Marin, their sixth of the season.

Murrie had 30 points on 11-14 shooting and was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line. He added eight boards add four assists. Jalen Chandler had an efficient game with 21 points on 8-10 shooting. He added nine boards and three assists. Not to be forgotten was Julian Bryant who added 15 of his own with six rebounds and three assists.

As a team Marin shot 55.8% and 6-11 from downtown. They were nearly perfect from the free throw line, connecting on 19 of 22 attempts. Marin's defense also shined as they limited Ohlone to 40% shooting overall and just 22.7% from distance.

Next up for Marin is the Bay Valley Conference opener on December 20th. The Mariners travel to Mendocino to take on the Eagles at 5:30pm.
