Basketball’s Alfonso Murrie Is February Co-Mariner of the Month

Sophomore Alfonso Murrie was named Co-Mariner of the Month for February. The guard/forward for the Men’s Basketball Team had an excellent final month of his Marin career. He helped lead his team to a 3-2 record in February and averaged 13.4 points per game on 50% shooting during that time.   

Alfonso recorded one of his best games of the season on February 5th as the Mariners dropped a heartbreaker to the Yuba College 49ers. Though Marin lost 93-91, Murrie exhibited his scoring abilities with 24 points on 10-14 shooting. He added five rebounds in a game decided in the final seconds.

Murrie and the Mariners rebounded a few days later at Los Medanos College. The Mariners grabbed a 76-75 win in the final minute and Murrie filled up the stat sheet accordingly. He scored 11 points and added five rebounds and five assists while playing excellent defense throughout.

The sophomore notched a double double on February 12th in Marin’s 73-70 victory over the Solano College Falcons. Murrie scored 13 points and grabbed 10 boards. On top of that he dished out two assists and nabbed a pair of steals.

Murrie stepped up his defensive game in Marin’s 72-70 victory over Merritt College on Valentine’s Day. He scored 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had a pair of key blocks in the team’s victory.

In February, Murrie scored 13.4 points per game while making six of his average 12 shots per game. He also averaged seven rebounds and two assists during that same span.

In his Mariners’ career Murrie played in 54 total games and averaged 9.4 points per game. His time in black and gold might have ended, but his basketball story is just beginning.
