Mariners Outlast Comets

College of Marin, Men’s Basketball (12-12; 8-4) took on the Contra Costa Comets (16-8; 9-3) on Wednesday night. Coming off of a 40-point win over the weekend against Solano College, The Mariners were ready to take on one of the top teams of the Bay Valley Conference.

In the first half, the Mariners trailed by as many as 10. However, a steal by sophomore Blake Murray sent the Mariners on a 9-0 run to take the lead, 25-24. From then on, the Mariners and the Comets battled back and forth. At halftime, the Mariners were down by one point.

The defensive pressure by the Mariners created a bit of discomfort for Contra Costa’s offense. Freshman, guard Cobi Wilson was on the front line of the Mariner press.

The leading scorers for the night were freshman, Anton Williams, and sophomore, Daniel Fagan with 19 apiece. Sophomore, Lukas Prongos contributed double digits as well with 14. The Mariners went 17-24 from the free-throw line securing the victory against the Comets.

The Mariners improve to 8-4 in conference play. They will be traveling on Friday, February 3rd to take on the Los Medanos College Mustangs at 5:30 pm.
