The Mariners are deep into their non-conference schedule for the 2016 season. Wednesday saw COM Men's Soccer travel to Monterey Peninsula College where they showed resolve, but could not overcome their opponent. The Mariners battled back on two occasions but could not get the score line in their favor before falling 4-2 on the road.

Monterey Peninsula came out the more aggressive side to begin the first half and were rewarded with an early goal, beating the Marin keeper William Finnie. Despite the early setback, the Mariners were not deterred, dropping several balls into the box. Their aggression was rewarded in the 35^th minute as they drew a penalty, the team's fifth in seven games. Henry Mata roofed his attempt over the Monterey keeper to tie the game at one goal each.

Monterey responded quickly with a second goal just before the half to retake the lead 2-1. Just out of the break, College of Marin upped the intensity and found their second equalizer in the 51^st minute as Francesco Coccaro took a feed from Jonathan Garcia and sent a bending ball beyond the keeper into the back of the net. With the score tied at 2-2, College of Marin continued to look for the potential game winner, but it was not to be as Monterey scored twice more to take a 4-2 lead and the win.

Coach Morrison was pleased with his team's performance despite the result, "This was a tough game to get this result. As a team we can all agree that there were four moments that we would want to take in an instant.  But that is the way the game goes and credit to MPC for capitalizing and making us pay."

Mata scored his fourth goal of the season and is three for three from the penalty spot.  Francesco Coccaro tied Mata for the team lead with his fourth goal of the season. William Finnie had ten saves in goal.

For Morrison "It is still very early in the season and as I said before there are a lot of new things that we will be adjusting to, whether it be road games, adjustment in shape, and/or simply playing at the college level.  I am confident that we are heading in the right direction."

The Mariners hit the road again on Friday as they travel to Skyline College for a 2PM kickoff.
