Jonnathan Blanco Named September Men’s Mariner of the Month

College of Marin Men’s Soccer player Jonnathan Blanco is the Mariner of the Month for September. The freshman defender from San Rafael High School has been instrumental in the team’s success so far in the 2017 season.

Through his first six matches he has been a masterful distributor, collecting three assists on the team’s 10 goals, and added a goal of his own. His assists total is tied for best in the Bay Valley Conference.

Blanco’s excellent run of play began in Marin’s game on September 5th at Monterey Peninsula College. The team was only able to field ten players for the match, and despite that they held the opposition scoreless for the first 80 minutes of the game. Though Monterey did earn a late goal and the draw. Blanco was at the heart of the defense that worked tirelessly for the entire 90 minutes.

Blanco kept his defense strong and displayed his passing skills with assists in back to back games. Versus College of the Siskiyous on September 15th, he setup Jesus Ochoa for the opening goal of the game. In the team’s next game against Gavilan, he started the match off by assisting on Carlos De Leon’s opening goal which came in first minute of play.

Blanco’s best offensive performance came in the Bay Valley Conference opener against Mendocino as he assisted the opening goal, supplying Andres Reyes in the third minute. He displayed his aerial skills with a headed goal in the 63rd minute which tied the match.

Blanco has many more matches ahead of him, and with his skill he is sure to add to his tally.
