Mariners Fall To Talented Roadrunners 6-0

Mariners' Men's Soccer took on the Butte College Roadrunners on Tuesday in Kentfield. The result was not ideal as the visitors took an early lead and then piled on a late for a 6-0 victory. The match gave an opportunity for Marin to try out a series of different lineups and formations but ultimately that did not lead to victory.

The visiting Roadrunners opened the scoring in the third minute as Lucas Cerantola Dos Santos blasted a ball past Mariners' keeper Payam Ravanfar from close range. Marin kept it tight for the following 30 or so minutes before Frederico Ferreira's inverse cross found the net for a surprise second goal. It could have been 3-0 before the half but Ravanfar made an excellent diving save on a penalty to keep the score within reach.

The second half was a drab midfield affair for the first 30 minutes. Neither team could muster any real attack and possession was sloppy in general. Both teams went deep into their benches in the 75th minute, which caused the game to unravel at bit for Marin.

Butte took advantage and scored four goals in the final quarter of an hour to make the final score 6-0.

The Mariners struggled to create opportunities, getting just three total shots, to Butte's 19. Ravanfar played the first 63 minutes in goal and made four saves including his denial of a penalty. Bryan Rodriguez took over in the 64th minute and made a pair of saves.

Four Mariners earned a yellow card as the match became contentious at times.

Next up for Marin is a home date against Canada College on Saturday, September 14th at 12:00pm.
