Men’s Soccer Closes Out 2019 Season With 1-1 Draw Versus Mendocino

College of Marin Men's Soccer finished out a successful year on Tuesday as they drew with the Mendocino College Eagles 1-1. The Mariners scored inside the first two minutes of competition but could not extend their advantage. Mendocino equalized and neither team could break the deadlock in 90 minutes of play. The draw extended the Mariners unbeaten run in conference play to seven matches and secured a second-place finish in the Bay Valley Conference.

The Mariners made quick work of the Mendocino defense and Peter Carroll fantastic footwork brought the ball to the baseline. He quickly cut it back to the boot of Daniil Menshikov who took a close range shot that roofed the net for the goal. It was the second quickest goal of the year for the Mariners. The early goal was unfortunately not a sign of things to come as Marin struggled to create goal scoring opportunities for the rest of the half.

The Eagles equalized the match in the 30th minute as Adrian Gaona delivered a close-range pass to Christian Guerra just skipped past the outstretched hand of Bryan Rodriguez. Tied at 1-1, the Mariners were unable to put together another scoring opportunity in the first half.

The second half came and went quickly. Both teams had their chances but never truly threatened the goal. The result was a 1-1 draw at the final whistle that clinched second place for the Mariners in the Bay Valley Conference.

Menshikov's goal was his fourth of the season, and Carroll's assist his second. The team finished the year a record of 4-3-3 in conference and 5-12-3 overall.

Next up for Marin is plenty of rest before the 2020 season.
