Soccer’s Brian Diaz is November Co-Mariner of the Month

Men’s Soccer player Brian Diaz was named Co-Mariner of the Month for November. The freshman defensive midfielder for the Men’s Soccer Team was essential to Marin’s success through the entire season. Diaz helped anchor the Mariners’ defense through their three November matches and helped them secure an undefeated final month of the 2019 season.

The freshman opened the month with playing a crucial role in the Mariners 2-2 draw versus the Yuba College 49ers. Diaz led the midfield through an excellent game, they distributed well and played excellent defense. Both of Yuba’s goals were against the run of play as Marin could have secured a victory in the match.

The Mariners romped on November 8th to a 4-0 win against the Contra Costa Comets. While Diaz did not show up on the scoresheet, he was a supremely important force in the victory. The Mariners scored early and often thanks in no small part to Diaz and his ability to distribute from the back. He intercepted a number of Comets’ passes and used his pace to positively impact the Mariners’ attack.

The final game of the season was an exciting one for all who participated. The Mariners drew with Mendocino 1-1 thanks to a pair of offsetting first half goals. Diaz started in midfield, but played all over during the match. He had one excellent 50-yard run that almost resulted in a goal, but late deflection thwarted his opportunity. He still managed to be influential throughout and nearly led his team to a win.

Overall it was a tremendous Freshman season for Briaz Diaz, as the Redwood grad played a key role throughout year.
