Soccer’s Daniil Menshikov is September Co-Mariner of the Month

Mariner Daniil Menshikov was named Co-Mariner of the Month for September. The freshman midfielder for the Men's Soccer team was a dynamic presence on and off the pitch.  In August and September, he recorded two goals and two assists while playing nearly ever minute of his team's nine matches.

The native of Moscow, Russia scored the game winning goal in his first ever match for the Mariners. He scored in the 54th minute of the Mariners' 2-1 win over Monterey Peninsula College on August 27th.

Menshikov added his second career goal just days later in the Mariners' match at Foothill College on September 3rd. His goal in the 70th minute brought the Marin within a goal at 3-2, but they could not complete the comeback.

He is also an excellent distributor and earned his first assist against Hartnell College on September 20th. Menshikov setup Kristoffer Wangberg with a perfect pass in the 15th minute to tie the match at 1-1. Though the Mariners went on to lose, Menshikov was essential to their competitiveness.

He bagged another assist in the following match at Monterey Peninsula on September 27th. Menshikov supplied Wangberg from close range to put the Mariners ahead 2-0 for the time being.

Daniil Menshikov is the ultimate team player according to Head Coach Geoff Aguiar, "He may not have the most goals or anything, but his impact on the game is huge, both attitude and effort wise."

Menshikov's star will continue to rise as he helps the Mariners in their 2019 Bay Valley Conference title chase.
