Mariners Blank the Eagles 5-0

After a hard fought Tuesday match that did not go their way, the Mariners were hungry for a redeeming performance as they hosted the College of the Siskiyous Eagles. A motivated Mariners team came out ready to play, producing some fantastic team play throughout the match. At the end of a hard fought ninety minutes, the Mariners landed on top with a 5-0 win.

The first half featured some scintillating combination play from the Mariners as they created several quality goal scoring chances. Freshman Wilson Barahona would score his first goal of the day to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. A quick and aggressive Eagles team created chances for themselves off of some great counterattack play, but goalkeeper Chris De Leon handled anything coming towards his net. At the halftime break, the Mariners remained ahead by just the one goal.

To start the second half, the Eagles of Siskiyous came out with a flurry of energy, causing trouble for the Mariners and forcing the team to adjust to their speed. As they adjusted, the Mariners found their rhythm and played a stellar second half. After a Brennan Blondin goal, Manny Garcia would take a pass from James Salazar and launch a one-touch scorcher into the back of the net. Alex Izaguirre would add to the scoring off a Barahona assist, before Barahona scored his second of the day on a beautiful free kick. A commitment to team defense saw the Mariners keep the clean sheet, with De Leon comfortably recording seven saves on the day.

The Mariners are back in action on Tuesday, 9/21 as they host the Bearcubs from Santa Rosa Junior College.
