Mariners Route Chabot 9-0

College of Marin Men’s Soccer rebounded from a tough match on Tuesday with a resounding team win against the visiting Chabot College Gladiators. The Mariners had 19 players take the field, including multiple players making their collegiate debuts. In the end, the 9-0 win proved to be a total team effort.

Brennan Blondin continued his scorching start to the season, opening the scoring early off goalkeeper Aly Alvarado’s second assist of the season. Midfielders Alex Izaguirre and Wilson Barahona displayed their chemistry combining for a second goal and Barahona would add a third through a solo effort moments later. With moments left in the first half, Duran Paez would find the back of the net to give the Mariners a 4-0 lead at intermission.

The Mariners kept pushing the tempo to start the second half, trying to suppress any chance for the Gladiators to gain momentum. Izaguirre would notch his second and third assists of the day, both on Blondin goals to give him a hat trick on the day. An incredible assist from left back Lessther Maldonado and a smooth finish from Luke Mai had the Mariners continuing to add new names to the stat sheet. Antonio Guasco would set up a second goal for Duran Paez before Luke Mai would add his second goal to close out the scoring for the game. Goalkeeper Gustavo Flores made a key late save to preserve the shutout for the Mariners.

Notching their first win of the season, the Mariners level their record at 1-1-1 after three games. Next up for the Mariners, the Owls of Foothill College come to Kentfield on Tuesday, 9/7 for a 2:00pm kickoff.
