Swim and Dive's Hope Garrett Grabs Three Top Ten Finishes At Sacramento City Invite

In the first big meet of the season, the College of Marin Mariners competed very well. The Sacramento City College Invite saw athletes from 10 different community colleges compete. Hope Garrett was Marin's best performer as she finished in the top 10 of all three of her races.

Garrett took seventh in the field of 18 swimmers in the 200 yard freestyle race with a time of 2:11.26. She did even better in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:06.36. That was good enough for third place amongst 31 competitors. Her best showing was in the 200 yard fly where she took second place with a time of 2:24.36.

Garrett's teammate Annika Mellin also had a good showing at Sacramento City over the weekend. In the 100 yard backstroke the freshman took ninth with a time of 1:09.93. In the 50 yard free, Mellin placed 17th in the 53 swimmer field with a final time of 28.87 seconds. In the 200 yard back Mellin grabbed fifth place of 18 swimmers with a time of 2:31.29.

On the men's side Scott Swanson took 39th place in the 100 yard freestyle race with a time of 58.95 seconds. He took 36th with a time of 27.16 seconds in the 50 yard freestyle competition. Alex Sennehen took 18th in the 500 yard free with a time of 7:39.49. He also placed 41st in the 50 yard free with a time of 29.1 seconds.

Next up for College of Marin is the 12th Annual Mariner Imitational at the College of Marin Indian Valley Campus on March 11th
