College of Marin Swim & Dive Travel to Las Positas Invitational

The COM Swim & Dive Team took to the pool at Las Positas College on Friday and Saturday for the annual Hawk Invite. The team enjoyed a multitude of success including five top 10 finishes over the two day meet.

Sophomore Hope Garrett took third place in the Women's 50 yard backstroke with a time of 31.11 seconds in the finals. Her seeding time was even better at 30.03 seconds, the second fastest qualifying time.  College of Marin teammate Annika Mellen even recorded an identical seed time before taking fifth in the finals with a time of 31.44 seconds. Marin's Skylar Merwin was also in the field, and finished 13th in 34.18 seconds, more than two seconds better than her seed time of 36.63 seconds.

Garrett also led her team into the Women's 100 yard freestyle, where she finished in 12th place with a time just shy of a minute in 59.99 seconds. Merwin had a time of 1:07.59 in the finals of the same event while Joanna Poliseri clocked in with a time of 1:15. 88. Mellen had three top six finishes as she also took fourth place in the Women's 200 yard backstroke in a time of 2:29.12.

The quartet of Marin women's swimmers competed in the 400 yard medley relay race and took 11th place in a total time of 4:55.80.

In the diving tank, Brandon Guy turned in an excellent performance in the 1 meter diving competition. He placed 4th with a total score o 122.30 in the finals after posted a score of 156.00 in the preliminary round. 

The Mariners travel to Hayward on April 8th to compete at the Chabot College Invitational.
