The Aquatic Mariners visited Sacramento City College on Friday and faced some of the toughest competition in Northern California. Despite the difficult opponents, several Mariners performed very well as Nick Cruse and Sophia Bruinsma both grabbed top ten finishes.

Cruze opened his day with a speedy time in the 200 Yard Breast. He finished in fifth place with a time of 2:19:91 just seven seconds behind the first place finisher. He followed that with a fourth place finish in the 200 Yard Individual Medley where he took fourth place with a time of 2:05:66 just five seconds behind first place. In the Men's 200 Yard Free, Cruse took fourth place just off the podium with a time of 1:50.03.

Cruse, along with teammates Thomas Brawley, Scott Swanson and Ferguson Cherry competed in the Men's 200 Yard Free Relay and finished in 17^th place with a time of 1:46.72. The Women's team competed in the 200 Yard Medley Relay and took 11^th place with a time of 2:19.37. Dakota Chamberlain, Skylar Rios-Merwin, Shannon Maden and Bruinsma competed for the Mariners. Madsen and Bruinsma along with Jackie Gibbons and Lindsey Going competed in the 200 Yard Free Relay and finished in 2:28.26.

Bruinsma competed in the 200 Yard Breast race and took ninth place with a time of 2:57.74 against a very tough field. She also took ninth in the 100 Yard Breast with a time of 1:17.47. Bruinsma swam in the 50 Yard Free and finished in 27.71 seconds, just two seconds back of the victor.

Rios-Merwin took 22^nd in the 100 Yard Free with a time of 1:04.77, while Madsen had a time of 1:14.04 in the same competition. Rios-Merwin finished in 11^th in the 200 Yard Free with a time of 2:30.02.

Next up for the Mariners is a home meet, the Mariner invitational at the Indian Valley Campus on Saturday, March 10^th.
