Freshman Mariners Nick Cruse and Dominique Duro traveled to the California State Championships at DeAnza College over the weekend to compete for College of Marin. Cruse took part in three separate races while Duro competed in three of her own. Cruse finished in the top eight of his races and pushed College of Marin to a top 20 finish in the team competition.

Nick Cruse finished in the top ten of all three of his races. He opened his competition with the Men's 500 Yard Freestyle where he took sixth in the preliminaries with a time of 4:41.74, six seconds behind the leader. In the final Cruse improved his time considerably with a third place finish in 4:36.01.

In the Men's 400 Yard IM, Cruse took eighth in the prelims in 4:13.31. He bettered his time by over two seconds in the final where he placed eighth again in 4:11.29.

Cruse's final race was the 200 Yard Butterfly where he was eighth in the prelims with a time of 1:55.30. The finals saw Cruse improve his standing and finish fourth with a time of 1:52.44, just two seconds behind the winner.

His efforts in the three races earned the Mariners 42 points for their Men's team, good enough to place them 18^th of 26 colleges participating in the State Championships.

Dominique Duro's State Championships began in the Women's 200 Yard Individual Medley where she placed 21^st in prelims with a time of 2:23.49. She also raced in the 100 Yard Backstroke where she was 17^th with a time of 1:02.40.

Duro's best effort came in the 200 Yard Backstroke where she finished 14^th in the prelims with a time of 2:19.61. her bettered her time in the finals where she took 15^th overall with a time of 2:17.34.

Her placement earned College of Marin two points in the final team rankings.

Both Cruse and Duro had fantastic seasons for the College of Marin. Their future swimming careers are both very bright.
