Mariners Swim Records Seven Top Five Finishes at Chabot Invitational

College of Marin swimming finished out their regular season with an excellent showing at Chabot College in Hayward. The Mariners' aquatic quartet Shannon Madsen, Sasha Urban, Keturah Fluno and Nick Cruse combined for seven top five finishes and three outright victories in the meet.  

Sophomore Captain Shannon Madsen competed in the both the 100 and 200 Yard Free races. She took fifth place in the 100 Yard event finishing with a time of 1:01.40, less than five seconds behind the winner. She was eighth in the 200 Yard Free with a time of 2:19.77.

Sasha Urban placed in the top five of all three of her races. The raced with Madsen in the 200 Yard Free and took fifth in 2:12.72. It was a tight finish as 1.6 seconds separated second through fifth place. Urban was third in the 100 Yard Breast in 1:15.08 less than three seconds behind the winner. She finished her meet with a victory of her own in the 200 Yard Breast where she was victorious by 2.7 seconds with a final time of 2:43.19.

Keturah Fluno competed in the 50 and 100 Yard Free and set personal bests in both. She completed the 50 Yard in 38.98 seconds and the 100 Yard in 1:34.96.

Nick Cruse made his mark on the meet with two wins and third place finish. The sophomore started the day with a victory in the 200 Yard Free. He out stroked his closest opponent by almost three seconds with a final time of 1:46.87. Took first in the 500 Yard Free by over 19 seconds with a time of 4:51.19. Cruse placed third in his final race, the 100 Yard Butterfly, with a time of 56.35 seconds.

Overall it was a strong showing for the Mariners who have a few weeks of training time ahead before the Bay Valley Conference Championships at Solano College April 18th-20th.
