Marin Aquatics Battles At Sacramento City Invitational

The College of Marin Swim Team participated in their third meet in as many weeks on Friday and continued to see positive results. The Mariners recorded five top 10 finishes on the day. Sophomore Sasha Urban was a major part of the team's success on the day with a second-place finish in the 200 Yard Breast.

The Mariners participated in a pair of relay races. Urban joined Kassandra Cavender, Serena Mejia and Remy Pelzman in the 200 Yard Medley to start the day. The Mariners finished in ninth place with a time of 2:16.77. Mejia was the anchor as the team finished in front of Solano, Sacramento City, Cosumnes River and Santa Rosa JC. The same quartet took part in the 200 Yard Free Relay where they finished in eighth position with a time of 2:03.85.

Urban was narrowly out touched in her best event, the 200 Yard Breast. She entered the race with the second seed time, more than five seconds behind the top seed. Urban finished the actual race in 2:44.28, and was just 0.19 seconds behind the top finisher from American River College. Urban took sixth place in the 200 Yard IM in 2:35.64 and took seventh place in the 100 Yard Free. She finished the race in 64.19 seconds, just a few seconds off the podium.  

Pelzman took part in the two team relays, and an individual event as well. She took 11th place in the 100 Yard Back in 1:14.97. She bested her seed time by almost a second and half in the race and finished just ahead of teammate Kassandra Cavender.

Cavender was also a participant in the two team relays and had a pair of individual events. The sophomore finished just behind Pelzman in the 100 Yard Back with a time of 1:15.31, ahead of her seed time by nearly two seconds. She raced in the 100 Yard Free and took 13th place with a time of 1:08.08.

Sophomore Keturah Fluno battled in two individual events. She finished the 100 Yard Back in 1:44.56, more than a second ahead of her seed time. She also raced in the 100 Yard Free with a time of 1:33.57.

On the Men's side Matheus Borges competed in a pair of events, Iram Hernandez also took part in two events, while Rosbel Santos competed in one of his own. Borges took part in the 500 Yard Free and finished with a time of 6:43.51. He also swam in the 100 Yard Free with a time of 1:04.64.

Hernandez finished just behind Borges in the 100 Yard Free in 1:09.79, but improved on his seed time by more than five seconds. Hernandez finished off the 200 Yard Free in 2:49.92. Rosbel Santos completed the 100 Yard Free in 1:28.50, besting his seed time by over a second.

The Mariners have a week of training and recovery before the Mariner Invitational on March 6th in Indian Valley.
