Coast Conference Recap

The College of Marin swim team has had an impressive showing at the 2023 Coast Conference Championships held at Ohlone College on April 20-22. The team's swimmers put on an exceptional performance, with many individuals achieving personal bests and placing highly in their respective events.

 
Beatrix Franus was undoubtedly the star of the meet, winning the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle events. She also placed 3rd in the 100 backstroke, an impressive feat considering the high level of competition at the championships.
 
Lily Weires also had a fantastic meet, placing 2nd in the 400 IM with a time of 5:12:71 and 4th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 56:76. Sophomore Maya Hunter finished 5th in the 500 free with a time of 5:38:78 and 5th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07:39, a significant improvement from her preliminary time of 1:11:38. Alana McCartney also performed admirably, placing 4th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:06:41 and 5th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 59:75.
 
Kailah Sarganis achieved a significant milestone by placing 3rd in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 19:54:36, improving over 1 minute from her previous attempt. She also placed 6th in the 200 freestyle and 7th in the 500 freestyle. Becca Janssen swam a lifetime best in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events with times of 1:16:20 and 2:47:87, respectively.
 
In addition to these standout performances, Lexie Gallardo, Kira Samson, Abel Ortiz, and Alex Boutakoff also swam lifetime bests in their respective events, contributing to the team's overall success.
 

The Mariners' impressive showing at the Coast Conference Championships bodes well for their upcoming participation in the California State Championship meet, which will take place on May 4-6 in Los Angeles.
