Villareal Qualifies for Big 8 Hurdles Finals

Sophomore track athlete Amanda Villareal will have another day on the track after sneaking through the preliminary rounds of the 100 and 400 meter hurdles on April 25th at Modesto College. Her teammates Carlos Jimenez, Mark Wang and Jonathan Gonzalez also represented the Mariners at the Big 8 Championships.

Villareal set a season best time of 16.55 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles, good for sixth place in the competition. She posted a time of 1:14:45 in the 400 meter hurdles good for ninth place.  She will look to win a Big 8 Hurdles Title on in the finals on Thursday in Modesto.

Carlos Garcia Jimenez ran in the preliminaries for the 800 meter run and set a personal best with a time of 2:15.83. His teammate Mark Wang also set a personal record in the same event in 2:26.70, an improvement of more than four seconds from his previous best. Fellow sprinter Jonathan Gonzalez competed in the 400 meter dash and recorded a time of 1:03:31.

On Thursday Villareal will competed in the hurdles finals while Wang and Jimenez will race in the 1500 meter finals.
