COM Track & Field Opens 2017 Season At Johnny Mathis Invitational

The first meet of the 2017 campaign went quite well for the Mariners as six of them took to the track on Saturday at San Francisco State University with positive results.

Freshman sprinter Emile Del Barrio had an exceptional debut as he was victorious in his 200 meter heat with a time of 23.11 seconds. He also won his 400 meter heat with a time of 51.40 seconds which was good enough for seventh in field of 19 competitors.

Zach Ahlin competed in a trio of events as he took third in his 400 meter heat with a time of 52.56 seconds, good for 11th overall. He finished third his 200 meter heat with a time of 24.18 and was sixth in the long jump with a distance of 5.97 meters.

Haziel Garcia did very well in the longer distance events as he won his 800 meter with a personal record time of 2:10.34. He set another personal best in the 1500 meter run as he took second in his heat in 4:32.41.

Mark Wang set a personal record in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:43.46 and Jeremiah Nguyen had a solid debut in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.95 seconds, good for fourth in his heat.

Grace Davis made her debut for the College of Marin Track and Field team as she took second her in 100 meter dash heat with a time of 14.37. She also competed in the 200 meter dash where she took third in her heat in 29.23 seconds.

The Mariners have a few weeks to rest, recover and practice before traveling to the De Anza Invitational on Friday, March 10th
