Mariners Track and Field Excel At The American River Invitational

College of Marin Track & Field are finding their stride after the first few meets of the season. Many members of the team have stepped up in unfamiliar roles as they continue to grow in their new events.

Zach Ahlin competed in his first ever triathlon at the American River Invitational on Friday and Saturday in a field that included athletes from several high-powered community colleges as well as Chico State University. After several hours of rain postponed the beginning of the meet, Zach began his conquest of the decathlon. He had very strong performances in several events including first place in the 400 meter and second place in the pole vault, long jump and 1500-meter run. He was unable to record a height in the high jump which gave him an overall score of 4584. With his first ever competition in the decathlon, Ahlin is currently ranked 10th in Northern California and 18th in the state of California.

Emile Del Barrio continued his strong freshman season with a personal best and heat winning time of 22.79 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Haziel Garcia shaved 11 seconds off his personal record in the 1500 meter run where he took second in his heat with a time of 4:21.06 Teammate Mark Wang also set a personal record by two seconds with a time of 4:46.29 in the same event.

Grace Davis set a personal best in the 100 meter with a time of 13.73 seconds, good for second in her heat. She also recorded a time of 28.87 in the 200-meter dash.

The Mariners have a few days of rest and recovery before their next meets at the Stanford Invitational on Friday, March 31st and the SF Distance Carnival on Saturday, April 1st
