Mariners Track & Field Excels In Less Than Excellent Conditions At Aggie Open

The Mariners braved the rain and wind on Saturday at the Aggie Open at UC Davis. Despite it being "not a PR day" conditions, there were plenty of bests for the Mariners. College of Marin Track & Field traveled five athletes in the team's second meet of the season.

The distance duo Megan Bartschat and Elana Smith Callies started the day strong with a pair of personal record in the 1500 meter. Bartschat, making her season debut, ran a breakthrough race, leaving the field with 300m to win her heat in 5:14.11.  She finished 12th overall of 24 runners with a time that places her ninth on the NorCal Performance List. Smith Callies raced in the same heat and also set a PR with a time of 5:40.05. Both women competed in the 800-meter run with Callies Smith taking 9th with a PR time of 2:43.08 and Bartschat 11th in 2:47.92.

The three Marin men of Myrron Minor, Brandon Lee and Juan Hojilla each participated in the 100-meter dash. Minor led the Mariners trio with a time of exactly 12.00 seconds, a personal best. He finished 16th in the 22-person field and was fourth in his specific heat. Lee and Hojilla took second and third in their heat. Lee recorded a personal best in 12.49 seconds while Hojilla clocked in at 13.68 seconds.

The wet weather day did little to slow down the Mariners who have a week of training before the two-day Hornet Invitational at Sacramento State University on Friday March 15th and Saturday March 16th.
