Bartschat and Smith Callies Highlight Mariners Accomplishments At Big Eight Championships

College of Marin Track & Field had an excellent performance at the 2019 Big Eight Conference Championships. Megan Bartschat and Lana Smith Callies both qualified for the finals and earned points for the Mariners. Myrron Minor, Brandon Lee and Grace Davis also competed in the prelims of the Championships.

Bartschat and Smith Callies each raced in the 800-meter run. They finished fifth and sixth in the preliminaries with times of 2:35.92 and 2:36.69 respectively. The finals were a tad slower, but both scored for Marin. Smith Callies took seventh with a time of 2:40.56 to earn two points while Bartschat took fifth place overall with a time of 2:38.68 to grab four points for the Mariners.

Bartschat had an impressive showing in the 1500-meter run. She finished in third place with a time of 5:10.99 to score six points for Marin. Overall Smith Callies, and Bartschat combined to score 12 points for the Mariners.

Minor and Lee represented the Men's team at the Conference Championships. Minor opened the day with a sprint in the 100-meter dash. He took fifth in his heat and 21st overall with a time of 11.69 seconds. It was his second-best mark of the season in the event after a 11.54 time at the College of San Mateo. Lee took 14th overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.55 seconds.

Grace Davis finished out her Mariners' career with a time of 28.13 seconds in the 200-meter dash, it was her second-best career showing which placed her 17th amongst the field.

Both Bartschat and Callies have a chance to competed at the NorCal Trials which begin on Friday, May 3rd at Modesto College.
