Track’s Bartschat Medals At NorCal’s Qualifies For State In 1500 Meter

Megan Bartschat has a knack at extending her College of Marin career. She did so again on Saturday at the NorCal Championships and now has a chance to take home a medal on the state level. The sophomore raced in potentially her final meet of the season in Modesto and medaled at the NorCal Championships. Her third-place finish in the 1500 meter qualified her for the CCCAA State Championships which are at the College of San Mateo on May 18th.

Bartschat was excellent in her race, both through raw ability and strategic execution. She took the lead from the gun in a slow and tactical race where the pack came through the opening 800 meters in two minutes and 46 seconds. With 200 meters to go, she separated herself from the pack in a group of three to kick her way to a 3rd place finish. Her final time was near a personal best as she completed the race in 5:03.39.

Bartschat's bronze medal and third place finished punched her ticket to the 2019 CCCAA State Track and Field Championships. She will compete in a field of 12 participants for 1500-meter title. She is the first College of Marin Track & Field athlete to present the Mariners in over a decade.
