Track’s Megan Bartschat is April Co-Mariner of the Month

College of Marin Track & Field team member Megan Bartschat was named Co-Mariner of the Month for April. The sophomore distance runner was tremendous in April’s three meets as she excelled amongst difficult competition and set a College of Marin record in the 1500-meter run.

The Tamalpais High School grad opened April at the East Bay Invitational at Chabot College on April 13th. Amongst an extremely competitive field in the 1500-meter, she finished in 37th place out of the field of 57 entrants, including competitors from St Mary’s and Santa Clara. Her time of 5:11.47 was her second best of the season at the time.

Bartschat’s next competition was just days later at the College of San Mateo Last Chance Meet on April 18th. She took second place in the race with a time of 5:03.01. It was a personal best for Bartschat and a College of Marin record it the 1500-meter run. She also competed in the 800 meter and took seventh with a time of 2:47.51.  

It was a busy month for the Track team who competed in the Big 8 Conference Championships the week of April 22nd. Bartschat turned in her best overall performance with a pair of top five finishes. She ran a tactical 1500-meter to take third place with a time of 5:10.99 and qualify for the NorCal Championships as a result. She also set a personal best in the 800-meter with a time of 2:35.93 in the prelims. She took fifth in the finals of that distance with a time of 2:38.68 as well.

The sophomore’s place in College of Marin lore is all but cemented, but she has a chance to improve her legacy with at the NorCal Championships which take place on May 10th.
