Mariners Drop Contest to Cabrillo College at Home 63-40

The Mariners do not have the numbers they possessed last season. But the addition of a new player certainly helps. Sophomore Monica Vasquez returned to the team after a three month layoff for soccer season. Coming off the bench, she made her presence felt in her first game. Although the College of Marin fell to Cabrillo College 63-40, a growing squad bodes well for the remainder of the season.

Cabrillo College jumped out to 20-7 lead at the end of the first quarter before the Mariners rallied to bring the score to 34-24 Cabrillo at half time. The Mariners brought the score to 41-35, but Cabrillo knocked down an open three to extend their lead to 9 at the end of the third. The fourth quarter was all Cabrillo as they outscored the Mariners 19-5 contributing to a final score line of 63-40.

It was a hard fought game as both Molly Carmody and Jaychelle Price fouled out. Vasquez did her best to pick up the slack as she scored 11 points, with a pair of three pointers, grabbed five rebounds and dished out two assists. Carmody had 10 points and three rebounds, and Darrian Cross scored seven points, had seven rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Mariners.

The team travels to Shasta College on Saturday, November 28th with tip off scheduled for 4pm.
