Women’s Basketball Crushes Laney College 56-36

Mariner's Women's Basketball hammered the visiting Laney College Eagles on Friday. Marin began the game on a huge run and never looked back. The Mariners led 32-9 at halftime and carried it through for a 56-36 victory. The game did have one dour note as starting center Janea Early went down early the second quarter with a lower body injury. She exited the game and did not return.

Marin led 6-0 early and 15-3 with two minutes remaining in the first quarter. They led by 15, 18-3 after 10 minutes of play and looked to be cruising to an easy victory. Two minutes into the second quarter, Early went down after jumping for a missed free throw. It took several minutes before she was able to make it off the court. Marin resumed play and continued their dominance but their spirit was diminished with the loss of their teammate. Laney was a bit better on offense, but at halftime Marin held a commanding 32-9 lead.

Laney threatened a few times in the second half, but never cut the deficit to single digits. Marin led 40-21 after three quarters. Laney cut the Marin advantage to 15 at 40-25 but could pull no closer as Marin fought back and won by 20 points, 56-36.

Marin's Victoria Lane led all scorers with 21 points, she added seven rebounds and three assists. Kaleah Williams had 18 for the Mariners with nine rebounds and four steals as well.

The win improved Marin's record to 13-7 overall and 8-3 in Bay Valley Conference play, good for third place behind Los Medanos and Merritt Colleges.

Next up for Marin is a date with conference leader, the Los Medanos Mustangs, with tip off scheduled for 7:30pm in Kentfield on Wednesday, January 31st.
