College of Marin Women’s Basketball Falls At Solano 74-56

Marin Women's Basketball faced an uphill battle at Solano on Friday, and well they battled to their best ability, they were at a significant disadvantage in the numbers game. Marin dressed just six players while the Falcons sported a game day roster of nine. In the end Marin was on the wrong end of a 74-56 game.   

Solano came out scoring to begin the game, as they scored 22 points in the first ten minutes of the game. The Mariners were not slouches as they answered with 15 of their own, but trailed by seven at the end of the first quarter.

The second was similarly played as Marin went of a run to cut the deficit before Solano responded with a series of buckets. It was 45-29 at the end of the first half of play. Kaleah Williams was deadly early, knocking down threes from all over the court.

The second half saw Marin go on a run to cut into their disadvantage, Williams continued her pin point accuracy while Victoria Lane slashed to the hoop. Marin scored 19 in the third and limited Solano to just 13 as Marin trailed the Falcons 58-48 after three quarter of play.

The Mariners ran out of gas in the final minutes as the Solano defense clamped down and limited Marin to just eight points in the final quarter. Solano doubled up with 16 of their own as Marin fell 74-56.

Williams led all scorers with 23 points including 5-8 from distance. She added eight rebounds, two assists and three steals on the evening. Lane was her usual productive self but was turned into a volume shooter at times, scoring 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds of her own. Kyra Bolden had a solid evening as well with 12 points and eight rebounds. Solano was led by Destiny Greenwood who had 18 points and 11 rebounds in the winning effort.

The Mariners have a two game week ahead of them with games against Yuba at home on Wednesday February 7th and a road game at Contra Costa on Friday, February 9th.
