Marin Women’s Basketball Guts out Road Win at Contra Costa 61-51

The shorthanded Mariners made the most of their road trip to San Pablo as they downed the Comets 61-51 on Friday evening. The Mariners built a lead in the first half and maintained it through the second half for the win. Kaleah Williams led all scorers with 27 points on the evening.

Marin came out in the first quarter and attacked the opposing basket to the tune of 15 points. The defense limited Contra Costa to just 10 and Marin held the advantage after the first 10 minutes of play. The second quarter saw Marin build their advantage to double digits as they led at halftime 27-17. Marin played very smart the entire game and limited their turnovers to just seven on the evening.

The second half was played completely even in both of the final quarters. The third quarter saw Marin keep their double digit lead, but only slightly as both teams poured in 15 points each. The fourth was higher scoring as Contra Costa matched the Mariners 19 scored in the fourth, but in the end Marin earned the victory 61-51.

Williams was 11-15 from the floor including 4-7 from three point land for 27 points. She added eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and block for good measure. Victoria Lane had 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block while Maya Murry-Pena had 15 points and two assists.

Marin has a record of 10-5 in Bay Valley Conference play and looks to finish the season with a victory over Napa Valley College on Friday, February 16th.
