Emily Schaefer enters her third year as the head women’s basketball coach at College of Marin. She began her tenure with the Mariners in April of 2019. 

In her first season,  Schaefer led COM to a 8-16 overall record with a 5-8 conference record earning the Mariners a fourth place finish in the Bay Valley Conference.  

Schaefer previously served as the assistant coach for the women’s basketball program at Norte Dame de Namur University for four seasons. In that role, she was the recruiting and academic coordinator. She was instrumental in the Argonauts success during the 2016-17 season, which led to the first Pacific West Conference post-season tournament appearance in program history. During her tenure at NDNU, Schaefer created curriculum and served as an instructor for Kinesiology department and was the Director of Compliance and Student Services. 

In 2013, Schaefer began her college coaching career joining the coaching staff at her alma mater, California State University, East Bay. Helping coach the Pioneers to two consecutive post-season appearances, and the 2015 CCAA Conference Championship game. 

Schaefer attended and played basketball at Butte College in Oroville, California before transferring to continue her academic and athletic career at California State University, East Bay. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from CSU East Bay in 2009 and Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from California State University, Chico in 2014. Schaefer coached AAU for the Golden Valley Basketball program and at Hank Marsh Junior High School while studying at Chico State.  

Schaefer attended high school in Lake County California, at Kelseyville High School.
