Women's Soccer Concludes Eventful 2014 Season

Head Coach Chris King's first year at the helm was an eventful one. Despite a very youthful squad, the team improved throughout the season and registered their lone victory over Contra Costa College on November 4th. As the season progressed the team's work ethic and commitment improved with solid efforts against several of the top teams in the conference.

Sophomore Mary Maldonado was a leader by example for the team while registering two goals and an assist during the season. She scored the team's first goal of the season against College of the Redwoods on September 13th and followed with the team's final goal of the season against Mendocino College on November 12th.  Mary is continuing her academic career in the fall as she transfers to UC Berkeley.

Freshman Patty Lindsay was a stalwart between the posts as the starting goalkeeper for the soccer team. She recorded 83 saves during the season the 29th highest number in the state.  Against Yuba College she saved 14 shots from a barrage of Yuba attackers. She recorded double digit saves in 8 games as she refused to yield to the onslaught of shots.  Patty will return next season to continue her success in goal.

Monica Vasquez was a late arrival to the team, but made her presence immediately known. Her blazing speed allowed her to outpace all defenders. Despite playing in only the final seven games of the season she led the team in goals with three. Notching the lone tally at Yuba on October 24th and score two of the team's three goals against Contra Costa College. Monica will return for her sophomore year to lead the Mariner attack.
