COM Women’s Soccer Throttles DeAnza 6-2 For First Win of the Season

The Mariners scored early and scored often as they grabbed their first win of the year over visiting DeAnza College on Friday in Kentfield. Sophomore Tatum Robach scored for the Mariners in the first ten minute and never looked back as she scored a team record four goals in the game. Bella Santia was magnificent in the midfield with four assists and a goal of her own, while Christine Wilhoyte added a goal of her own.

Marin started in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Robach and Wilhoyte on the wings. In the 10th minute attacking midfielder Santia fed Robach on the left wing. Robach cut in and beat the goal to the left for an early 1-0 Mariners lead.  The Mariners kept the attack up with Robach going close with two strong chances that just missed. She found the net again in the 40th minute. Santia found Robach with an inch perfect pass down the left channel. Robach took two touches middle and lashed the ball into the back of the net.  DeAnza countered with a series of well-placed paces and scored just before the halftime whistle.

The Mariners began the second half nursing their 2-1 lead, but it was quickly increased as Robach nabbed her hat trick off another perfect pass from Santia. Robach took the ball from the left corner, dribbled in and beat the keeper to the right to give Marin a 3-1 lead. At that point the flood gates opened for the Mariners as Christine Wilhoyte got behind the defense and lashed a goal from 20 yards out. The excellent delivery was again thanks to Santia who had four assists on the first four Mariners' goals.

Robach added her fourth off a pass from Ana Kraviz in the 73rd minute before Santia but the icing on the proverbial cake with an interception and goal of her own in the 87th minute. She earned a yellow card for her celebrations but no one seemed to be too upset by the carding.

DeAnza pulled one back in final minutes but all it did was make the score line 6-2 at the final whistle.

Marin's record sits at 1-0-2 after three matches, their best start to a season since 2002. Robach has seven goals in three games good for sixth in the state.

Marin has the weekend to rest before hosting Siskiyous on Monday, September 11th at 1pm.
