College of Marin Women’s Soccer enjoyed its best season in over a decade. The 2017 campaign came to a close the second week of November, and while the team barely missed out on a post season berth, it was a hugely successful year for Head Coach Andrew Jones in his second year at the helm.

The season began with a pair of 2-2 draws against Skyline College and College of The Redwoods. They got their first win of the year against De Anza College in early September as their blitzed the visitors with a sextet of goals in the 6-2 win. Tatum Robach scored four times in that match and had seven goals in her first three matches of the year. After a 2-0 victory against College of the Siskiyous, the Mariners experienced their first difficult stretch of the season.

College of Marin fell 4-0 to Butte College in their final non-conference game of the year. They bounced back by winning their Bay Valley Conference opener over Yuba College 2-1. Brenda Lopez provided the thrills as she tied the match at 1-1 before winning it with a second half stoppage time goal. The streak was promptly halted by Solano as they were steamrolled 7-2 in their second conference game.

The Mariners bounced back with a four match undefeated streak as they beat Los Medanos 2-1 before throttling Contra Costa 8-1. Ana Kravitz opened her goal scoring account in a big way with five against the Comets. The Mariners drew 0-0 versus Mendocino and 1-1 versus Yuba before hosting BVC leaders Solano in late October.

In the most exciting match of the year, the Mariners fell behind 2-0 before storming back to take a 3-2 at halftime. The visitors from Solano rallied and scored twice to take the game 4-3. Solano finished their Conference scheduled undefeated. After a loss to Los Medanos 1-0 the Mariners stormed through the rest of their schedule with five straight victories over Merritt College, Mendocino, Napa, Napa and Merritt again.

The run to end the year solidified an excellent season that saw the Mariners achieve a 7-2-2 Bay Valley Conference record and a 10-4-4 record overall for the year.

As a team the Mariners scored 49 goals and allowed just 30. Robach led the team with 12 goals and nine assists, Kravitz and Christine Wilhoyte each added eight goals on the year. Five Mariners earned All-Conference Honors as Freshman Liza Bernard and Disa Johannson were each named to the Bay Valley All Conference First Team. The Marin trio of goal scoring Sophomores Robach, Kravitz and Wilhoyte each earned Second Team Honors.

“I am very proud of what the girls have been able to accomplish this year, this group has changed the culture of the program,” said Coach Andrew Jones “This will play a key role in providing greater opportunities for student-athletes at College of Marin moving forward.” 

The Mariners finished the season in third place in the Bay Valley Conference and were in the Top 20 of the Northern California Power Rankings. 

The sky is the limit for the College of Marin Women’s Soccer Team 2017.
