College of Marin Women’s Soccer Undone By Skyline Trojans 3-1

Marin Women's Soccer continued its non-conference schedule with a 3-1 loss at Skyline College on Friday. Marin took an early lead, but the home team Trojans rallied past the Mariners. Deirdre Hyde was spectacular once again with Marin's lone goal, her fourth in just three matches.

College of Marin started the match on the front foot and were the better team for the first quarter of an hour. In the 11th minute the Mariners opened the scoring as Deirdre Hyde received a pass from Odaiclet Piccinini at the top the box and powered a shot past Skyline's keeper for a 1-0 Marin lead.

The Mariners' advantage was short lived as Skyline found the equalizer just six minutes later. In the 17th minute of play, Allie Guiulfo latched onto a pass from Dania Romero and beat keeper Anna Schlosser to tie the game up at 1-1. Schlosser was making her season debut and allowed just one goal while saving four shots by the opposition.

Skyline untied the game just before the halftime whistle as Sierra Olsen scored off a pass from Braedyn Stone to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

The Mariners tried a considerable number of formations and substitutions in the second half, but could not find the right combination to rally. Skyline kept the pressure and got a third goal in the 60th minute to increase their lead to 3-1.

Though the Mariners had half an hour to climb back, they could not find the finishing touch to score again.

Hyde scored her fourth goal in three matches and has scored in each match in which she has played. Piccinini tallied her first assist of the year and played the second half in goal, stopping eight Skyline shots. Disa Johansson played with ferocity all over the field, and even earned a yellow card in the second half for dissent.

All in all it was another learning experience for the Mariners who say their record drop to 1-2-1 on the season.

Next up for the Mariners is a road match against Chabot College on Tuesday, September 18th followed by a rematch with Skyline at home on Tuesday, September 25th.
