College of Marin Women’s Soccer Defeated By Chabot College 4-0

Mariners' women's soccer ventured to the East Bay on Tuesday to face the Renegades of Chabot College. It was a forgettable afternoon, as the Mariners were out hustled and outmatched in a 4-0 loss. Marin did not give up the fight, but their effort proved to be little consolation against their Coast North opponents.

Odaiclet Piccinini began in goal for the Mariners and was tested frequently in the first half of play. Early on, Chabot's offense worked as a well-oiled machine, connecting several passes in the final third and creating several excellent scoring opportunities.

Chabot opened the scoring as Adriana Mariscal nabbed a pass from teammate Borami Schwartz and scored for a 1-0 lead by the home team. The Renegades doubled their advantage shortly after as Alia Morris fed Marisol Martinez for the second goal of the half. Piccinini gave her best effort, practically standing on her head at times to keep out the barrage of opposing shots, and made four excellent saves in the first half.

She was replaced by Gladis Polanco who played for the entirety of the second half in goal. The Chabot attack was fiercer in the final 45 minutes as the home team unleashed eight shots on goal. Ivania Limon scored the third of the match for Chabot off a pass from Adriana Mariscal. Martinez added her second, from Yvette Sandoval to finish off the four goal game by the Renegades. Chabot peppered the Marin goal with eight shots, six of which Polanco saved.

Marin struggled on the offensive end, but did create a few opportunities. Steffanie Flores played up front and generated five shots in the match. Deirdre Hyde was unable to find her scoring touch, but did put three shots on goal.

In the end it was a learning experience against a very talented team. The Mariners continue to seek their second victory of the season and currently sit with a record of 1-3-1.

Next up is a home rematch against Skyline College on Tuesday, September 25th. Marin looks to avenge a 3-1 road loss earlier in the month.
