Mariners’ Soccer Drops Home Match To Skyline 2-0

On a day fit for soccer, the Mariners were unable to find the back of the net. In Kentfield on Tuesday, Marin hosted the Skyline College Trojans in a rematch of the previous week's game. The score was different, but the margin was the same as Skyline beat Marin 2-0 after defeating the Mariners 3-1 in San Bruno the week prior. The Mariners had several opportunities, but could not find the finishing touch against the Trojans.

Marin began the match on the front foot with excellent presence in the final third. They had a few opportunities but the shots fizzed wide, or were right at the Skyline keeper. Deidre Hyde and Jurany Pohl combined for a shot each early on, but they were unsuccessful attempts.

The Trojans countered Marin's early control with an excellent spell of play, hammering Marin keeper Anna Schlosser from every angle. She made a pair of nice saves including a kick save on a shot from the top of the box that was hard and low.

In the 42nd minute, Skyline found their first goal. A high arcing shot from the top of box by Braedyn Stone, sailed over the head of Schlosser for a 1-0 lead for the visitors, which carried through the intermission.

The second half saw fatigue wear down both teams, but Skyline proved to be up to the task. In the 60th minute another goal found its way into the net off the foot of Jaclyn Aquino to double the Skyline lead to 2-0.

The Mariners did their best to respond but could not get a goal. Pohl, and Hyde both had more chances and midfielder Elise Perez had an excellent opportunity but could not beat the keeper.

In the end it was Marin's third consecutive loss that pushes their season record to 1-4-1. The Skyline match was Marin's final non-conference competition.

The Mariners begin Bay Valley Conference play with a road match against Napa Valley College on Friday, September 28th.
